For the purpose of the financial statements, the ORLEN Group measures its inventory at weighted average cost, in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards. As IFRSs prohibit the use of the LIFO method of inventory valuation, it is not used as part of the accounting policies applied at the ORLEN Group and, consequently, in the Group's financial statements. As a result, an increase in oil prices has a positive effect on the reported results, and a decrease in oil price has a negative effect on the reported results. For this reason, this Report includes additional information on the ORLEN Group operating results determined with the use of the LIFO method of inventory valuation, which makes it possible to eliminate the above effect of changes in crude oil prices on the ORLEN Group’s results. LIFO-based operating profit or loss is calculated mainly for the refining companies, including: ORLEN, the ORLEN Unipetrol Group, the ORLEN Lietuva Group, the ORLEN Południe Group and the ORLEN Oil Group.
